Guys, my Christmas spirit was already in full force this week but now I’m about to burst into glittery snowflakes after receiving very exciting news…..

I WON TWO ROYAL DRAGONFLY BOOK AWARDS!

A Firefly’s Journey earned me FIRST PLACE in the Best New Author (Fiction) category, and SECOND PLACE in the Best Picture Book category. I couldn’t be more thrilled!

The Dragonfly Book Awards is an international contest that recognizes excellence in all types of literature (not just kids), so being recognized as Best New Author is a huge honor. Receiving a silver award for Best Picture Book is also amazing given the steep competition and quality of work in this category.

Truly grateful for this recognition and for all the kind words and support from all of you! THANK YOU!!

When I say that I’m already in the holiday spirit, man do I mean it! Immediately after Thanksgiving I went to work decorating the inside and outside of our house, planning Christmas-y weekend activities for the kids, lighting winter-scented candles, and drinking holiday flavored beverages (Shiner Holiday Cheer!). After losing most of our decorations in the flood, we started from scratch and my inner Clark Griswold took over. Mayyyy have gone a little overboard this year, including securing decorations to our roof, but it’s all part of the experience, honey.

(That’s a mama polar bear with a baby polar bear on top of an iceberg that I made out of craft foam, a Santa train on the roof, a moose and a baby moose in the background there, and like 50 million lights and other stuff around the yard…did I mention I went a little overboard this year?)

I also snapped this quick photo of the kids decorating the tree and somehow it came out looking like a Norman Rockwell painting.

And what would the holidays be without MUSIC?!

Rather than spotlight a specific kids music artist, I went ahead and created a Kiddos Christmas playlist that features several familiar voices (if you’ve been following this blog), a few classics, and a handful from TV/Movies (like Muppet’s Christmas Carol which is one my all-time faves). We’ve enjoyed a few merry dance parties so far this season and I hope you do too!
